Explore The Great Hall

Winchester's medieval hall, the last remaining section of what was William the Conqueror's Winchester Castle, is a wonderfully cool space to explore in a heatwave. The on-site café also sells cold drinks and ice creams.

A must-visit all year round, Winchester's ancient cathedral remains a cool and calm place to be even during a heatwave, thanks to its thick stone walls. Head there for a sheltered, shady and cool couple of hours. There are plenty of shady spots and benches around the Inner Close too.
