Swoon Gelato
The newest addition to Winchester's ice cream scene, Swoon Gelato opened in spring 2026 on Parchment Street. Swing by for scoops of premium gelato, milkshakes and gelato burgers (a scoop of gelato inside a toasted brioche bun). Expect flavours like pistachio, hazelnut and bacio.

Visitor Information Centre
Pop into Winchester's Visitor Information Centre to pick up a tub of locally-made Judes ice cream. They sell flavours like strawberries and cream, black coconut and salted caramel - plus ice cream for dogs too! The Visitor Information Centre is close to Abbey Gardens and Winchester Cathedral grounds, both ideal places for pausing in the shade.

Shoal
A fish and chip restaurant might not be the first place you'd think of on your hunt for a perfect scoop, but Shoal, which is in the Guildhall building at the bottom of Winchester high street, is known for serving up delicious gelato. Made from local milk and churned daily, Shoal's silky gelato is served to takeaway in tubs or cones.

Chococo
No surprises that Chococo, which sells chocolates hand made in Dorset, is known for serving great chocolate-flavoured gelato too. You can pick up a scoop (or three) of small-batch flavours like chocolate orange, 72% Ecuador dark chocolate, 46% Colombia milk chocolate and oat milk-based 43% milk chocolate in their store on Winchester high street. Other flavours, like Dorset milk and guava and lime sorbet are available too.

The Arc
Another city centre spot for picking up a tub of local Judes ice cream is The Arc café. Grab yourself an ice cream, or a lower sugar children's lolly, after browsing the library or seeing an art exhibition at The Gallery. The Arc's newly decorated outdoor seating area is a great spot to sit in the sunshine.

Five Boroughs Pizza
Head to Five Boroughs Pizza on Jewry Street to try one of their soft serve sundaes. The sell sweet swirls of New Forest Ice Cream soft serve with an array of toppings. Think pistachio and white chocolate, maraschino cherry, bubblegum knickerbocker glory and more.

On sunny days, you can get a cone of Marshfield Farm ice cream from a cart handily positioned in Abbey Gardens, one of the city's best spots for a picnic and a play. Expect flavours like clotted cream, orange marmalade, caramelised biscuit and chocolate fudge brownie.

A spot on Winchester high street for those with a seriously sweet tooth, Republic of Pizza and Desserts sells more than 30 different flavours of gelato, plus milkshakes and a wide range of desserts too.

Bon & Rose at The Yard
A family-run spot on a working farm near Alresford, Bon & Rose serves small-batch artisan gelato Friday - Sunday during the summer months. Sample unique flavours like damson, baked apple and cinnamon, pear and ginger, strawberry and basil, Hampshire milk and Moonroast coffee. If you want to make a day of it, The Yard is also home to a café which serves up Moonroast coffee (it's roasted there too), a children's play trail and Wild Sauna.

Platform 1
A charming café in the old ticket office at Shawford train station, Platform 1 is also a great place to visit for gelato. They make small-batch gelato and sorbet on site, offering inventive flavours like black cherry, blood orange, blueberry and lavender and fig and ricotta.

Made using local milk with a flavour menu that changes with the seasons, OG Gelato churns buckets of the Italian-inspired sweet stuff at their gelateria at Hampshire Pantry, a farm shop, café and smallholding on the outskirts of Winchester.
