Don’t just take our word for it – Winchester features on the BBC Good Food’s list of top three stunning UK cities that are best for families. Winchester is one of the favourites alongside Edinburgh and Chester.

According to the BBC Good Food team, Winchester is:

‘Best for…King Arthur history, good food, pubs and otters’

and is ‘the perfect sized city for a half-term break’ serving up plenty of food and fun for all the family.

Exploring the city is ideal for kids as they can walk to many of the sites with a park or two to fit in during sightseeing. Not to mention the many opportunities for a pit stop with good food. Winchester is one of the only urban locations in the UK where otters are likely to be spotted – best view points are from Winchester City Mill via their otter cam.

Why not time your visit to coincide with one of our festivals? A favourite for festival goers with kids is Winchestival. Winchester’s city centre music festival returns on the 15 June with a bigger and better line up. The Magic Numbers headline the main stage, with support from Cassia, Larkins, Only the Poets and many more. Milton Jones will headline the comedy tent and Allister Whitehead headlines the Downtown Brown Stage. With entertainment for festival goers of all ages and free activities for children including a kids stage, circus skills, kids disco, wood workshop, bungee trampolines and the tea cups, plus the best street food from around the UK – Winchestival 2019 is a family friendly event in the heart of the UK’s happiest city. And even better news – the festival is free for under 5s and just £13 for 5-17 year olds.
