Take a leisurely cycle

Take a relaxing pedal along the Viaduct Way or challenge yourself and cycle around the district – make sure you take the time to explore any market towns you pass through, you’re going to deserve a slice of cake and a coffee after all that cycling.

Dust off your walking boots

If you enjoy a summer stroll (in autumnal weather) Winchester is the perfect place to be. Take a walk around the historic city centre enjoying an abundance of great architecture and, within minutes, be surrounded by the breath-taking countryside of the South Downs National Park.

Lay down your picnic blanket

Just because it’s a little cooler that’s no excuse to pack the picnic blanket away. Pack a flask instead and fill your picnic hamper with your favourite treats for a picturesque afternoon enjoying some autumnal sunshine at St Catherine’s Hill.

Take a self-guided tour

The Visitor Information Centre is brimming with self-guided walks to explore throughout the district – wander through history, take in an autumnal sunset walk or walk in the footsteps of Austen or Keats. The trails can also be downloaded here.

Find your favourite garden

Have you been exploring the beautiful gardens in Winchester this summer? Abbey Gardens, Queen Eleanor’s Garden, Chawton House or Gilbert White’s House – can still be enjoyed and look just as beautiful crowned in the golden colours of Autumn.
