On board, you’ll be wrapped in a vibrant light and sound display with live entertainers leading interactive games, seasonal singalongs, and plenty of magical moments.

Meanwhile, the platform at Alresford Station will be aglow with light projections, singing Christmas trees and a courtyard of winter chalets selling delightful treats.

A must-see experience for anyone visiting Alresford this Christmas season, Steam Illuminations is running until 4 January 2026. Visiting after 29 December? The Pop Anthems Edition, with songs from your favourite pop artists from Queen to Taylor Swift, takes over the illuminated train!

Fuel up for your day in Alresford with a visit to one of the town's independent cafes and restaurants. Whether you're looking for a pastry on the go or a delectable sit-down meal, Alresford has many tasty dining options to explore.

Winter walks in Alresford

For a seasonal stroll through the town, begin The Millennium Trail at The Station Yard. This walk will lead you through the main streets of the town, exploring its rich history and notable landmarks. You can also bask in the festive cheer of the twinkling Christmas tree and town lights along Broad Street.

For a longer walk into the surrounding countryside, divert onto The Alre Valley Trail at Arlebury Park. Walk along the river Alre to discover Old Alresford, including Eel House, Alrebury Park House and panoramic views of the Alre Valley. Be sure to keep an eye out for waterbirds such as Moorhens, Coots and Tufted Ducks which are common here in the winter months!

After re-joining the Millennium Trail, you will be brought back to the town proper, where you can warm up with a hot drink, a delicious meal and some Christmas shopping.
