Notice: The Itchen Navigation path will blocked between Garnier Road and Hockley Viaduct, by St Catherine’s Hill, for essential tree works. The closure will be enforced on weekdays only from Tuesday, February the 20th to Tuesday, March the 26th 2024, between 8am and 4.30pm.
Follow the daily route Keats took during his stay in Winchester.

Enjoy a self-guided walk in the poet’s footsteps from the city to St Cross, passing through the landscape which inspired his famous ode ‘To Autumn’.

The round trip is approximately two miles. Pavements, paths and grass lie underfoot and stout shoes are advisable after wet weather.

Follow the links for more detailed information on the places of interest you will pass along the way. The numbers in brackets correspond with the Keats’ Walk route map.

Refreshments are available en route at the Cathedral Café and at the Hospital of St Cross itself during the summer months. The Bell Inn in St Cross Road is the closest pub to St Cross Hospital. Alternatively, there are many picnic spots along the way.

If you’re organising a group outing along Keats’ Walk, why not enlist the services of one of our qualified tourist guides to help you discover the sights and learn a few stories along the way?
