Dressing Demo: “Inside the Regency Dressing Room: Getting Dressed in 1816”.
Have you ever wondered how Jane Austen’s heroines actually prepared for a ball or a walk through the village?
On their annual Dress Up Day, join Jane Austen’s House for a lively and enjoyable 'dressing demonstration' led by Dr. Serena Dyer. She’ll take you inside an 1816 dressing room, revealing the intricate layers of Regency fashion from the shift, stays, and gowns, up to some of the era’s more surprising accessories. Witness the step-by-step process of dressing a Regency lady and learn some historical garment terminology along the way.
Dr Serena Dyer FRHistS is a historian, broadcaster, author and curator, specialising in the history of fashion, making and shopping. Serena is also Associate Professor of Fashion History at De Montfort University, Leicester, UK.
