A Year with Gilbert White: An afternoon with Jenny Uglow
- Dates:
- 18 April 2026
Address:
Gilbert White's House, The Wakes, High Street, GU34 3JHAbout A Year with Gilbert White: An afternoon with Jenny Uglow
Join author Jenny Uglow on a spring afternoon in Selborne, the home of Gilbert White and subject of her latest book, A Year with Gilbert White.
In the book critics call ‘A joy to read’ Uglow illuminates this quirky, warm-hearted man, ‘the father of ecology’, by following a single year in his Naturalist’s Journal. As his diary jumps from topic to topic, she accompanies Gilbert from frost to summer drought, from the migration of birds to the sex lives of snails and the coming of harvest. Fresh, alive and original and packed with rich colour illustrations – A Year with Gilbert White invites you to see the natural world anew, with astonishment and wonder. Uglow will give a talk, followed by a Q&A session and book signing. There will be refreshments available.
Tickets: £20 (Event Only) / £40 (Event + Copy of A Year With Gilbert White). Please note that ticket holders will be allowed to view the house and gardens before the event.
