About Autumn Steam Gala

The Autumn Steam Gala brings three days of steam‑powered excitement, with unlimited rides behind visiting locomotives and our home fleet running an enhanced timetable along the 10‑mile heritage line. Visitors can explore every station, enjoy Brake Van rides, discover restoration projects, and take in a range of talks and exhibits from 9am to 6pm each day.

This year’s visiting engines include Ivatt Class 2 No. 41313 from the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, sister to our own 41312, which will be appearing in her final gala before overhaul. Joining her is GWR Heavy Freight Tank 4247, a 1916 Swindon‑built locomotive with a long working history in South Wales. More visiting locomotive details will be announced soon!

Driver experiences with 1788 Kilmersdon will run daily at Ropley Yard, giving participants aged 18 and over the chance to take the controls for a short, guided session.

The Behind the Scenes Tour offers a rare look inside our engineering workshops, showcasing the specialist skills involved in restoring and maintaining steam locomotives and rolling stock.
