This year The Queen becomes the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. Attractions and businesses across the country will be planning and holding events in the lead up to and over the extended Bank Holiday weekend, from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June.
Winchester district is steeped in royal history and so has good reason to celebrate the Jubilee. Follow the district’s royal connections as far back as the Early Middle Ages when it was the capital of Wessex under Saxon kings. Royal residences were built here and Winchester Cathedral has hosted many royal ceremonies.
