South Downs Sourdough is an artisan bakery school, nestled in the South Downs National Park and established in 2018.

Courses are practical, fun and informative. You can discover how to make delicious, nutritious sourdough using traditional methods.

Learn about sourdough starters, techniques for kneading and proving and much more.

You will go away with the confidence and skills to consistently produce excellent breads from your own kitchen.

We provide all equipment and supplies, including an apron to keep you clean on the day. You only need to bring enthusiasm and questions, which we will answer from extensive knowledge and through practical learning.

You will go away with two loaves and a pizza dough you have made yourself, a South Downs Sourdough starter and various recipes.

Our most popular class is the one-day ‘Simply Sourdough’ course.

We also offer a Low G / G Free sourdough baking class.

Alternatively, a two-day course, allowing more time to cover the basics and more, can be combined with a stay at The Brick House B&B, so you will enjoy your own bread at breakfast time.

Vouchers are available to purchase if you want to give this fun experience to a loved one as a gift for Christmas, birthday etc.

The Brick House was originally built in 1850 and while the aim is to meet the needs of all visitors, its location and some of its features make access difficult for people with limited mobility.

From the large gravel drive, there is step-free access through the front door to the ground floor hallway and then to the open plan kitchen where classes take place.

Worktops, ovens, sink etc. are all set at heights typical of a domestic kitchen.

The Brick House is non-smoking throughout.
