Further along in the stunning Abbey Gardens, you will find the Common Alder (Alnus glutinosa) and slightly further on a Swamp Cypress (Taxodium distichum).
The Common Alder has grey-purple buds and young catkins conspicuous in winter and rounded bright green leaves in summer.
The Swamp Cypress is a coniferous tree with a conical crown, fibrous red-brown bark and soft, feathery, light green foliage turning rich yellow-brown in autumn.
