It’s going to be unusually hot over the next few days and the Met Office has issued an amber warning for extreme heat in the South East England from Sunday 17 July. So please remember to take extra precautions to stay cool:

  • Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water – remember to take plenty of water with you if out and about.
  • Close curtains and blinds on rooms that face the sun to keep indoor spaces cooler.
  • Park in shaded areas where possible and, before getting into your vehicle, if safe to do so, open two doors for one minute to allow hot air to escape before driving.
  • Apply sunscreen regularly and wear a hat if you do go out in the heat.
  • Delays on roads and road closures are possible, along with delays and cancellations to rail and air travel. So check your journey before you leave to see if you will be affected.
  • Significantly more people are likely to visit coastal areas, lakes and rivers leading to increased risk of water safety incidents.
  • 999 services should be used in emergencies only, seek advice from 111 if you need non-emergency health advice.

For more information check the Met Office website.
