Dawyck Beech tree

As the pathway splits along the river walk, you will find a Dawyck Beech tree (Fagus sylvatica Dawyck).

The Dawyck Beech tree is a tight narrow tree that was originally discovered in the woods within the Dawyck estate in Peeblesshire, Scotland. This magnificent tree has vibrant lime green with deep crinkle-cut veins. As autumn comes the leaves bronze and becomes a russet brown.

I wonder when this tree came to Winchester from Scotland…
