River Cottage Kitchen Winchester is located in the verdant settings of Abbey Mill Gardens, located close to the city centre and all the major tourist attractions.
Our menus are inspired by the land, the sea and the seasons. We pride ourselves in producing inspiring dishes that use the freshest, seasonal ingredients; sourced with the highest welfare standards in mind.
Our poultry, pork and lamb are properly free range and supplied by Pipers Farm and our beef is from grass-fed suckler herds of native British breeds. When using wild meat, we always know its origin and kill method. All of our fish is either locally caught or MSC certified.
We are also big on vegetarian and vegan food. Our menus always feature several vegetarian and vegan dishes which change seasonally. Seasonal organic British fruit and vegetables are always our priority. We do sometimes use ‘conventionally grown’ (non-organic) veg when we can’t get the organic produce we want. Mis-shapen and wonky veg are welcome in our restaurants.
River Cottage has been a well-known name in Britain since 1999, when Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall first brought his hands-on, ethical food ethos to our TV screens. Since then, the River Cottage books, TV series and Hugh’s hard-hitting campaigns have changed the eating habits of the nation, as well as improving the welfare of our farm animals and the sustainability of our fisheries.
