A brand new family-friendly event, Winchester’s Indie Trail, launched with a mini festival in Winchester on 4 August.
Armed with their own limited edition map and passport, young explorers can follow the Indie Trail throughout Winchester for a treasure hunt around the city centre’s independent shops, businesses and eateries. They can collect stamps in their passport along the way, pick up a commemorative badge and their parents can make the most of special promotions and discounts at participating venues. If they manage to complete the passport, a bag of complimentary sweets will be waiting at the Tourist Information Centre at the Guildhall.
The Indie Trail will run every day throughout August as a perfect summer holiday activity for residents of and visitors to Winchester alike to celebrate the city’s independent thriving businesses.
A specially created pop-up play shop for children, 1 Independent Street, has been built inside the Winchester Tourist Information Centre for memorable photo opportunities.
The event is being run by the Winchester BID (Business Improvement District). Please feel free to share your photos on twitter using the hashtag #IndieWinch.
Maps and passports can be collected at the Winchester Tourist Information Centre at the Guildhall and participating businesses who will be displaying special vinyl stickers.
The route is flexible, can be done in any order and need not be completed in a single day. All shops taking part will have badges available as well as the Tourist Information Centre. There is no need to hand in the passport although sweets will only be given out for completed passports.
Winchester Tourist Information Centre opening times:
Monday – Saturday 10am – 5pm
Sundays and Bank Holidays from May to September: 11am – 4pm.
Independent shops taking part in the trail will have their own opening hours. See the map and passport for participating businesses.
