It’s December 1896 and the garrison is preparing for the festivities. Gather around the kitchen range for seasonal tales and warm mince pies, in the company of Mrs Blenkinsopp and Private Dobson.
The barrack room will be decorated with oranges, cloves and seasonal greenery, the original range will be lit and the delicious smell of freshly baked mince pies will fill the air.
In the Officers’ Mess visitors will be able to compare the Christmas fare served to the ordinary soldiers and that reserved for the officers, giving an interesting in-sight into life in a Victorian garrison. Your guide will also describe what life and conditions would have been like in this cold, hilltop fort in mid-winter.
Visitors will be served warm mulled wine or non-alcoholic punch, as well as one of Private Dobson’s famous mince pies, warm from the range.
