Founded in 2007 by author Paul Burston, Polari showcases the best in established and emerging LGBT+ literary talent.

This event is part of the Polari Prize Tour, which takes in 20 towns and cities across the UK. Featuring Paul Burston, VG Lee, Alexis Gregory and Karen McLeod aka Barbara Brownskirt!

Paul Burston is the author of six novels including the WH Smith bestseller The Black Path and his latest psychological thriller, The Closer I Get. His journalism has appeared in The Guardian, The Times, Time Out and many other publications.

VG Lee is the critically-acclaimed author of five novels and two collections of short stories. She was nominated for a Stonewall Award and won the Ultimate Planet Award for Best Established Author. She is also a contributor of humour to The Lady Magazine.

Karen McLeod is a published author and professional comic writer and performer. Her debut novel, In Search of the Missing Eyelash won a Betty Trask award and was translated into four foreign languages. She is the writer and performer of Barbara Brownskirt, the indefatigable and prolific poet-in-residence of the 197 bus stop, Croydon Rd. She works with the performance art collaborative DUCKIE and presents her own comedy writing nationally in theatres.

Alexis Gregory is an actor, playwright and producer. His plays include ‘Slap’ for Theatre Royal Stratford East, Channel 4 and at ‘Concrete’ in Shoreditch, ‘Safe’ for Soho Theatre, London Theatre Workshop, Norwich Theatre Royal and Reading Rep, ‘Sex/Crime’ at alternative East End queer venue The Glory.

By Bus:

The Winchester Discovery Centre is served by a variety of local buses which stop outside the library on Jewry Street, including the 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, X24/25/26, 68, 86, 95/95A/96/96A, and 99/X99 which all stop outside the main entrance.

By Train:

Winchester Discovery Centre is just a short five minute walk from Winchester Train Station.
