‘Tilly’ is based the struggle of pioneering engineer and feminist icon, Beatrice ‘Tilly’ Shilling as she battles authority and societal expectations to save the Spitfire. Her clever ‘fix’ – known cheekily as ‘Miss Shillings’ Orifice’ – might well have changed the outcome of the War. But she has no ‘fix’ for the dramatic undercurrents taking place in her personal life as she learns a dark secret about her friend and housemate Muriel.
This year, to celebrate women’s achievements on science and engineering and to mark the centenary of the founding of the Women’s Engineering Society, she has written this one-act play about Hampshire-born heroine Beatrice Shilling. 2TimeTheatre has a reputation for creating original and exciting drama and had adapted, written and produced Venus and Adonis, Meeting Miss Austen and Jane Austen and the Waterman since its launch in 2016.
