History and hospitality in a serene and picturesque setting by the water meadows. The Hospital of St Cross is a beautiful group of Grade I Listed Buildings dating from 1132 and is home to 25 Brothers.

Founded just 65 years after the Norman invasion, The Hospital of St Cross was created by a young French monk and nobleman, Henri de Blois, Bishop of Winchester, who was the grandson of William the Conqueror. It remains a Christian almshouse for elderly men.

The Hospital (the word denotes hospitality) welcomes visitors to its magnificent Church of St Cross. After enjoying the ancient medieval hall, old kitchen and fine gardens, with bulbs, herbaceous, shrubs and an ancient fish pond, they can receive the Wayfarers Dole at the Porter’s Lodge.

The gift shop sells a selection of high-quality goods from the Porter’s Lodge.

The Hundred Men’s Hall Tearooms will be open for refreshments.
