Join Jane Austen’s House for a fun and relaxed patchwork workshop, perfect for beginners!

The event will be inspired by one of the treasures of the collection – a beautiful patchwork coverlet made by Jane, her sister and her mother, using a technique called English paper piecing.

Within the workshop you will enjoy a short, illustrated talk on the history and technique of patchwork, and you will visit the exquisite patchwork quilt created by Jane Austen and her mother and sister, on display in the House, and learn about the many intricate details in this unique piece.

Returning to the Learning Centre, you will pick up our needles and have a go for yourself – the team will help you to make a pretty patchwork hexagon flower which you can applique to a bag or attach to a card, to take away with you. They will even send you away with the materials to continue your patchworking journey at home!

All materials will be provided, but please bring a pair of scissors with you, if possible.
