Jane Austen’s nephew Edward Knight, eldest son of her brother Edward at Godmersham Park, became a frequent presence at Chawton House from 1820 onwards. He held a number of influential offices in Hampshire and came to identify strongly with the county, his attachment to Chawton eventually led to the sale of his former home at Godmersham, a painful loss for his surviving siblings. In this illustrated presentation, Hazel Jones, author of The Other Knight Boys: Jane Austen’s Dispossessed Nephews, will trace Edward Knight’s years at Chawton House with his two extensive, often quarrelsome families.
