The Lantern Parade is a highlight of the Christmas events calendar. Take part or watch as participants parade with their paper and willow lanterns from the cathedral through the Outer Close. The event will include community carols led by Churches Together Winchester and conclude with an impressive firework display.

Those wishing to see the parade should come to the Cathedral Outer Close for 6pm.

To help us manage the event we ask that all lanterns are registered via the Cathedral Box Office (no more than four people per lantern).

To register your lantern please call the Cathedral Box Office on 01962 857 275 or email

Registered lantern bearers please come to the main entrance of the Cathedral at 5.30pm. Our  Dean and a representative from Bella Crafts will be judging the lanterns on the night and prizes will be given for creativity and beauty. We have a number of family ice skating tickets to be won.
