Ratings you can trust

All the properties promoted by Winchester City Council are assessed and have been awarded a quality rating by one or more of the two national agencies, the AA and VisitBritain* (formerly the English Tourism Council), who operate a harmonised system for grading accommodation.

All properties have been visited by a qualified assessor and awarded a rating based on comfort, cleanliness, facilities and services. Special gold and silver awards are granted by VisitBritain to serviced accommodation achieving the highest levels of quality within its rating. Click here to view Winchester's bed and breakfasts and hotels with VisitBritain's gold and silver awards.

The only exceptions are the larger hotel chains which operate their own internal assessment schemes.

For detailed definitions of each accommodation rating visit the EnjoyEngland or AA websites.

We have introduced a new ‘entry level’ assessment which ensures a basic level of hygiene, safety, welcome, comfort and cleanliness. Created by VisitEngland and licensed for inspection by Quality in Tourism, the new local scheme offers small businesses an alternative assessment process to the star rating system. Establishments who already have a star rating automatically qualify to carry the logo of this scheme.

Complaints

In the unlikely event that you find cause for complaint, we strongly advise you to take it up with the accommodation provider at the time of your stay while they have the opportunity to put things right.

Complaints can also be directed to the tourist information centre in writing stating at which establishment you stayed, when and the nature of the complaint. We will record and investigate complaints, but please note that we have no statutory control over establishments in their method of operation and cannot become involved in legal or contractual matters.
