Free events and quizzes at Winchester City Museum

Families in search of a challenge this summer can try out the City Museum Relic Trail. This free quiz will take you around the museum to face various ingenious challenges which you must successfully complete to earn the title “Guardians of the Museum”. Many children will have seen the CBBC TV series Relic – Guardians of the Museum earlier this year, and now they can take part in their own fun-filled treasure hunt to explore objects in the museum collection.

Friday 13 August: Make-and-take drop-in workshop

To support this summer’s BBC “Hands on History” campaign featuring “The Normans” Winchester Museums are giving visitors the opportunity to have a go at making their very own Norman shields with designs influenced by artefacts in the museum or their own imaginations. Further Norman events are being held by both Winchester Cathedral and the Great Hall.

DIY Comics

Monday 26 July 2010 - Friday 30 July and Monday 23 August - Friday 27 August 2010

Local illustrator Becky Palmer will be taking small classes of children (8 to 12 year olds). She will show them how to shape their stories and experiences to make a Comic Book of their own.

Sessions will be held for the last week of July (26 - 30 July), and the last week of August (23 - 27 August).

Children should attend for all five days of a session, and then learn how to plan their stories, set them out, print and bind them - ready to hand out to their friends!

Freefall Festival

Get caught up in Winchester's summer arts festival for the under 18's and feel the rush! With music, dance and creative workshops for all ages, there's a huge range of activities to get involved in. 

Theatre Royal Winchester, The Tower and The Discovery Centre have teamed up to create a programme of summer workshops in their own venues (from 2 to 15 August), culminating in a week of activities in specially erected marquees at Riverpark from 16 August. Over the weekend of 21 and 22 August everyone can come down to the park for 2 days of free events and performances. So if you want to dance, play in a band, perform, create stories, paint, sing or simply spill out your energy and creativity, get involved in Freefall. Falconry at INTECH Science Centre

Children's learn to knit workshop

Knitting needles and wool will be supplied. The workshop is designed for children aged 6 to 13 years old. Parents must stay with their children for the session and can learn to knit too!
