There are four main performing arts venues in Winchester, including the cathedral where classical music concerts take place throughout the year in awe-inspiring surrounds. Other venues are:
The Theatre Royal Winchester
An Edwardian building which underwent a major refurbishment before it reopened in 2001, the theatre has been sensitively restored with a modern twist. It provides an elegant setting for classic plays, children's theatre, music, dance and stand-up comedy.
This venue once served as the city's water tower and now stages an eclectic mix of off-the-wall acts as well as an annual Children's Festival. The Tower Arts Centre
The Chesil Theatre Company
The company stages its productions in the diminutive 12th century St Peter's Church. It is the premier amateur theatre company in the area, with more than 200 members and six plays produced each year.
