BIG Green Bike Tour

If peddle-powered sightseeing in your thing then why not take a trip with Cycle Tours UK. The tour will be based in Lainston House Hotel with day trips from the hotel to local spots including Mottisfont Abbey, Jane Austen’s House and the Isle of Wight. The tour includes 3 days of cycling, (with a morning tour of Winchester City), with 3 nights at Lainston House Hotel and will cost £400 per person. Winchester Land Draw

16 - 18 July 2010

Free art event for the whole family. Take part in a Land Draw and create a giant wildlife inspired design. Work with the ScapeSpace Events Team to create the huge design from wood chips and sand. The image will highlight the wildlife of the Itchen Navigation and celebrate animal migration and extraordinary life cycles.
Plus there will be dance performances by students from The Westgate Secondary School, a Wise Moves Dance
collaboration, at 3.30 pm on Friday 16 July and 3.30 pm on Sunday 18 July.

Fish and Game Event at Sparsholt

'Home grown' trout and venison will be the stars of this show. Come along to Sparsholt College and follow the trail their fish and game take before reaching the plate. Learn how to make succulent recipes at home with an executive chef. Both trout and venison will be available to buy on the day. There will be a morning session starting at 10.30am and an afternoon session starting at 12.30pm. Tickets are limited, so guests will need to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

The River People - Terrible tales of the midnight chorus (Edinburgh Fundraiser)

Saturday 24 July,  6:30pm - 11:00pm

This year the Spinney Hollow Woodland Theatre welcomes The River People back with their beautiful tales of macabre woven gently with music and stunning puppetry.

Tickets: £20, price includes - performance, fire side music, theatrical walk into the wood.  A glass of wine/ juice and a carefully prepared bite to eat is also provided - ( veggie stew and pigeon/ partridge and venison kebabs.TBC, salad and bread).

The Spinney Hollow Woodland Theatre was created in 2008 and consists of a rustic proscenium arch with Solar powered lights. The audience sits on handmade benches and chairs and are invited to watch performers as the dusk settles into night. Green woodwork courses at Spinney Hollow

Chris Matthews has been working, designing and teaching for many years and has a vast knowledge of woodland and its produce. This will be his third season at Spinney Hollow and we are delighted to welcome him back.

Eat into Green Living

Try out new recipes using flour from local wheat, milled with water power at Winchester's City Mill as part of the Mill's ‘Eat into Green Living’ project. Winchester City Mill has been awarded DEFRA government funding for this project which is designed to demonstrate to local families the choice they have when it comes to using local, sustainable ingredients.

Have a go at making delicious wholemeal scones and cake with the Mill's freshly milled flour ready for that summer picnic or cream tea in the garden.

Sat 23 Oct
Join in a series of baking demonstrations for children and grown ups using freshly milled flour.

The Mill is open daily (10.30am – 4.30pm) with family activities plus flour milling demonstrations on Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday and Bank Holiday afternoons (2pm – 4pm).

It’s Okay to Play

Pop along to one of the Forestry Commission’s new natural play facilities during the school holidays and take part in exciting activities and “taster” days in woodland settings across the Winchester district. "It's Okay to Play" is a partnership between the Forestry Commission and Winchester City Council with the aim of engaging young people in the natural environment and to enjoy the benefits of being outdoors.

A fun packed morning spent with a Forestry Commission ranger, children will get the chance to take part in a range of activities with an environmental theme. Clothes to get dirty in are essential!

Tuesday 27 July, Micheldever Wood, 10:30pm – 12:00pm
Discover all things tiny and slimy on this ranger led minibeast hunt. Use your magnifying glass to discover the secret world of the bugs. You will also get the chance to build your own bug hotel! All children should be accompanied.

Crafty Kids Workshops
Wednesday 28 July, Micheldever Wood, 45min sessions (10:00am, 11:00am, 1:00pm, 2:00pm)
Local artist Jo Carter will be on hand for a day of crafty activities in the woods using natural materials. All materials provided, just bring your creative flair!

Our first den building session of the summer. Come along and test your skills! Dress suitably for getting dirty!

The Forestry Commission will be helping to celebrate national play day with a fun packed day of action and adventure in West Walk woods. There will be activities suitable for all ages. Children must be accompanied.

Magic Forest in a Box (4-7 yrs)
Thursday 5 August, West Walk, Forest of Bere, 10:30pm – 12:00pm
Using natural materials collected on a short ranger led walk in the wood create your own living miniature forest that you can take home and look after. All children must be accompanied.

Den Building (6+ yrs)
Friday 6 August, West Walk, Forest of Bere, 2:00pm – 4:00pm
Get active and get building in West Walk woodland. You will have the chance to build your own den – and when you have finished the ranger will be testing it to see how waterproof it is. Wear suitable clothing. Young children must be accompanied.

Come and explore Creech Wood in search of hidden Wellington boots. Follow your map to find the clues and answer the questions. If you can solve all the clues you will unlock the secret location of the buried treasure! Treasure Maps can be picked up from the main car park where your adventure will begin.

Wood Is Good Celebrations with Marwell Wildlife

9 - 13 August, Marwell Wildlife

 Join Marwell Wildlife's "Wood is Good" celebrations this summer and find out what fantastic habitats trees offer for all sorts of wildlife.

Follow Marwell Wildlife's story time trail through the enchanted trees then join in with creative crafts by decorating your very own wood cookie.

Take time to 'leaf a message' on the eco-tree and share your ideas on how Marwell Wildlife can better conserve the environment.

Whiteley Energy Weekend
