Visitors with disabilities

Here is some general information about facilities for visitors to Winchester with disabilities. For more detailed information and advice, or information in another format, please contact our tourist information centre. All our permanent staff at the tourist information centre have undergone 'Welcome All' training.

Visitor trail by wheelchair

Winchester Tourism and Shopmobility have devised a trail to help wheelchair users to see the historic city. Click here to request a copy of the trail.

Toilets

All public toilets in the city centre have adapted toilets. These can be found at Chesil Multi-Storey Car Park, Abbey Gardens, Market Lane, Brooks Shopping Centre, Tower Street Car Park and Worthy Lane Car Park. There are adapted toilets in Bishop's Waltham central car park, Kidmore Lane car park in Denmead, Station Road in Alresford and Station Road in Wickham.

The RADAR key scheme is in use and keys are available for loan or purchase at £3 from the Tourist Information Centre, the main reception desk at the City Council's Offices, Colebrook Street, or from the Environmental Health Department at Winchester City Council.

Parking

There are special bays for disabled visitors in all city car parks and parking is free for cars displaying the orange/blue badge. If disabled bays are full, cars may be parked free of charge in a standard bay. The Brooks car park has the largest number of disabled bays. In Winchester, orange/blue badge holders can also use residents' parking bays. Click here for a map of car parks in the city.

Shopmobility

Manual or powered wheelchairs and battery-powered scooters are available to anyone who has difficulty getting about for just £4 per visit for non scheme members or £2.50 for scheme members (there is a small annual registration fee to become a member). Under 16 year olds must be accompanied by an adult.

Book a vehicle by phoning 01962 842 626 or visit Shopmobility in the Upper Parking level of the Brooks Shopping Centre. You can collect your vehicle from Shopmobility or it can be delivered, by prior arrangement, to a location within the city centre (or further a field for a small charge). Users of the service can park for free in the Brooks car park.
