Britain’s finest 13th century Gothic Cathedral! Discover nearly 800 years of history, including the world’s best preserved Magna Carta (AD 1215) and Europe’s oldest working Clock (AD 1386). Salisbury Cathedral is situated in the largest and best preserved medieval Close in Britain. Set amidst historic buildings and ancient stone walls it is surrounded by eight acres of lawns. Built in just 38 years (AD 1220–1258) it is a magnificent example of Early English Gothic architecture.

Explore the roof spaces as you climb 332 steps (in easy stages) on a tour to the top of the tower, experience breathtaking views down the length of the Nave from above, out across Salisbury as well as inside Britain’s tallest spire.

Boy and girl choristers sing daily services continuing a tradition of worship that dates back over 800 years. Throughout the year the Cathedral hosts many cultural and musical events, including concerts as part of the Salisbury Festival. You might also catch one of the informal concerts given by visiting choirs, many from overseas, over a lunchtime during the summer.

Volunteers provide guided tours on most days highlighting the Cathedral’s many treasures. Be sure to visit the Refectory Restaurant and shop which are now housed in a modern glass-roofed building which gives spectacular views of the Spire soaring high above.
