William Cobbett wrote of Avington that it was 'one of the prettiest places in the County' and indeed it is true today. Charles IV stayed at various times. It is still a family home and stands in beautiful grounds close to the River Itchen. Guided tours of the staterooms are available.

Nearest major road is M3. Take A34 towards Newbury. Immediately get into right-hand lane A33 Basingstoke to London. At crossroads turn right onto B3047, Itchen Abbas and Easton. After 3 miles turn right to Avington opposite The Trout public house.
Nearest station is Winchester. Bus 67 to Alresford/Guildford. Alight at Trout pub and walk to Avington. Turn right into drive after humped-back bridge.
