50 Fab Days Out For Families

13 June 2011

A new book, which is packed full of days out ideas for families, has become the fastest selling and best local interest book in Winchester, it was revealed today (1).

50 Fab Days Out For Families has been written by local children aged between 4 and 11, who give an inside and personal view of the best affordable and free places to visit.   Fun, adventure and happy families are at the heart of the book and celebrate the best family days out in and around Winchester. 50 Fab Days Out For Families includes new ideas for undiscovered places to explore and a fresh look at some old favourites with expert tips from parents.

The book, which costs £5 and is being sold in Waterstones in Winchester, Southampton and Basingstoke, Caracoli in Alresford or by ordering on line at www.50fabdays.com, has the backing of television personality, actress, Hampshire resident and mother Sarah Parish.

Sarah said "50 Fab Days Out For Families really is a little gem. Packed to the brim with great things for kids of all ages to enjoy.  If you are visiting the Winchester area this is a must have, I cannot recommend it enough."

50 Fab Days Out suggestions include family adventures, picnic and BBQ sites, walks, cycle rides, play areas and other more unusual ideas.  And each day out includes practical advice about things to take, time to arrive and what to expect.

Each fab day out has been tried and tested by the children who contributed their ideas for their favourite, fun and exciting places to go.   There are ideas for whole days out, as well as places to visit for just a couple of hours - and places to explore all year round.

Catherine Russell, a parent of two children Juliet aged 6 and Joe aged 4, said “This book is really good. I’ve not seen anything else like it on the market. I can't believe there are so many places I hadn't heard about.  As a family, we always go to the same places. Now I've got loads more new ideas to try out.  I love the parent recommendations and real life quotes from children too. I know these will be great days out because they've come from other families.”

The book includes £40 worth of free vouchers, which will offer a discount to some of the places featured which charge entry fees.   Hampshire County Council, Red Funnel Ferries and Sainsburys have lent their support by sponsoring the book.   All proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the Compton School Association, a registered charity supporting Compton All Saints Primary School.
