Big Band On The Lawns

The luxury country house hotel, Lainston House, just two miles outside Winchester is the perfect setting to enjoy an afternoon of live music. So on Sunday 21st August why not gather friends and family on the glorious lawns of Lainston House to enjoy a rousing performance by the spectacular Big Band called “Straight No Chaser” as they beat out their fabulous repertoire of toe-tapping swing, jazz, Latin, funk and blues!

Lainston House is a beautiful 17th Century William and Mary Country House nestling in 63 acres of stunning Hampshire countryside. This wonderful country retreat has 50 luxurious and individually designed bedrooms and suites, an award-winning restaurant and their most recent addition, a resident falconer along with his beautiful birds of prey. The delightful lawns at the rear of the hotel are terraced creating a natural amphitheatre perfect of this popular annual event.

And you can make a day of it by arriving early to enjoy afternoon tea or perhaps a late lunch al fresco on the terrace or in the hotel’s Avenue Restaurant. Alternatively, claim a spot in the grounds and enjoy one of the hotel’s luxury picnics hampers – they recommend you book this in advance – or you can take your own but note, there will also be a hog roast and drinks available to purchase. Billy Taylor, former Hampshire cricketer and now the hotel’s resident falconer will be on hand to introduce his Bengal eagle, harris hawks and barn owls to you!

Tickets are £25 per adult including a glass of champagne on arrival, £70 for a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children), £55 per person for tickets including a three-course lunch in the Avenue Restaurant or £45 per person for tickets including Afternoon Tea. No seating is provided so band goers should take their own blankets or deck chairs. Gates open at 4.00pm and the concert begins at 5.00pm.

The Big Band event at Lainston will be helping to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Lainston House is part of the country house hotel group Exclusive Hotels who are celebrating their 30th Anniversary this year. To mark this milestone in the company’s history the hotel group launched a campaign in January to raise £30,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support as well as up to £30,000 for the hospitality industry charity, Springboard. So far they have raised well over £60,000 so have smashed their original target. By attending the Big Band event on 21st August you will also be able to help Lainston raise even more for this great cause.
