The Old Vine is to offer Gastropub Classics During July's Food Festival

4th July 2011

The Old Vine, a grade II-listed gastropub and inn opposite Winchester cathedral, will be offering a tempting menu of pub classics using the best local produce throughout July, in support of the Hampshire Food Festival.

Although the Old Vine is an enthusiastic supporter of local food and drink producers all year round – we’re members of Hampshire Fare and holders of a Hampshire Hospitality Award for use of local produce - the summer months see Hampshire produce come into its own, including watercress and locally reared meats, superb chutneys, cheeses, ales and desserts.

Sample dishes include steak and ale pie using Hampshire beef and beer from local breweries, such as Flack Manor in Romsey and Itchen valley in Alresford, burgers from Winchester’s Beechcroft farm, fishcakes using trout from the River Test Smokery in Chilbolton and a tart of butternut squash and rosary goat’s cheese from Salisbury.

The menu will change throughout the month according to what is available from our suppliers. Booking is not essential, although advisable as the Old Vine is a popular local spot.

For a full list of the producers we’ll be featuring, or for further information contact the old vine’s owner Ashton Gray 01962 854 616; reservations@oldvinewinchester.com, www.oldvinewinchester.com

Images of the old vine are also available, including high-resolution images.
