Alfie Bears All

Feeling inspired? Then why not pop into Winchester's award winning Tourist Information Centre this autumn, where you can enter a competition to name a Winchester teddy bear.

The competition is open to all, so whether you are young or just young at heart, come on into the centre, located on the ground floor of Winchester Guildhall at the bottom end of the High Street, and take part. The deadline for competition entries is 30 November 2007. The winners will receive - yes you've guessed it - their very own Winchester teddy!

The centre's two brand new bears, pictured here on at King Alfred's statue on a recent sightseeing tour of the city, are part of a broad, new range of Christmas gifts on sale in the centre. Choose from local produce, such as toiletries and candles from a Hampshire lavender farm; Winchester souvenirs that are ideal for Winchester fans home or abroad, and a suberb selection of unbreakable lightweight items that are ideal presents for friends and relatives living overseas. There are also stamps on sale to save waiting in lengthy seasonal post office queues.

Winchester City Council's Tourist Information Centre Manager, Alison Woods said:

"Tourist Information Centres aren't just for visitors, so please do BEAR us in mind this autumn. We can give you some great ideas for half term activities or an autumn short break elsewhere in Britain."

The tourist information centre is open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and can be contacted on: 01962 840 500 or e-mail: tourism@winchester.gov.uk or via the website at: www.visitwinchester.co.uk
