Community Heritage in Partnership logoWhat is this? it is an organisation which brings together local history societies, museums and other groups interested in the heritage of the Winchester District to work together.


 

Winchester is a city with a great deal to offer visiting schools and colleges. Its many historic buildings, monuments and museums offer a wide choice of visits relating directly to areas of the National Curriculum.

Winchester is easy to reach by motorway and main road, with two coach drop off points in the heart of the city. It is a compact town which is ideal for walking, and the main sites of interest are all close to the pedestrianised High Street.

Winchester Cathedral - education
Whether in Winchester for a couple of hours or a full day they will help plan a visit to ensure all children and young people gain as much as possible.

Great Hall
The Great Hall was one of the largest and finest in England, and is certainly the finest of that period to have survived today.

City Museum
Situated in the centre of Winchester between the High Street and the Cathedral, the Museum tells the story of the city through display of its extensive archaeological and local history collections.

Westgate
The Westgate is one of two surviving fortified gateways in Winchester. The structure shows evidence of 12th century construction, with modifications in the 13th and late 14th centuries.

City Space
An opportunity to share in the history and culture of England's ancient capital. A specially-designed exhibition area on the ground floor featuring a changing programme of exhibitions, ranging from displays drawn from the vast collections held by Winchester City Council's museums service to installations by some of our talented local artists.

Combining the best of libraries, with an exciting world of learning, leisure, entertainment and fun.

Winchester Military Museums
Winchester has many military museums. The city has one of the largest collections of military heritage outside London.

Intech
INTECH is an educational resource supporting learning in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

Winchester City Mill
The mill has a delightful island garden and impressive mill races. The video, children's quizzes (extra activities during school holidays) will keep the family entertained.

Winchester Tourist Guides
Their aim is to help visitors enjoy their visit in the Winchester area. They can provide walking and coach tours for general interest groups, for school parties and students, overseas visitor and special needs groups.

Winchester College Tours
Founded in 1382 Winchester College is believed to be the oldest continuously running school in the country.

Royal Armouries Fort Nelson
Fort Nelson is a superbly restored Victorian fort overlooking Portsmouth Harbour. It is home to the Royal Armouries national artillery collection with over 350 historic guns on display.

Marwell Wildlife
Beautiful Marwell has over 200 species of rare and wonderful animals including tigers, snow leopards, rhino, meerkat, hippo, giraffe and zebra.
