Winchester lies just off junctions 9-11 of the M3. Take exit 9 for access from Basingstoke, London and the M25, or exit 10 for access from the south coast. Winchester is at the southern end of the A34 for access from Oxford, the Midlands and the North. For access from the West Country, Winchester is 7 miles south of the A303.
There are direct, regular train services from the south coast and from London Waterloo (55 minutes) for connections with Eurostar. Winchester is also served by the cross-country network, with direct trains from Scotland and the Midlands. Winchester station is a 5-minute walk north-west of the city centre.
For groups visiting from overseas, Winchester is a 40-minute drive from Portsmouth's ferry port and a 3-hour drive from the Kent ports via the M2/M20, M25 and M3.
The closest airport is Southampton International, which is just 15 minutes from Winchester, either by road via the M27 and M3, or by direct train. London Heathrow is 50 miles away via the M4, M25 and M3, and London Gatwick 72 miles via the M23, M25 and M3.
