Players grade 5 + come and play a collection of saxophone ensemble music, directed by Nigel Wood.

Nigel studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire where he specialised in saxophone and clarinet performance. He was one of the first students to study the saxophone at the Conservatoire and after graduation he became a saxophone teacher at theConservatoire and helped to establish their exam syllabus for that instrument.

He was a founder member of the group Saxtet and as part of the group, he was inspired to compose, arrange and later to publish new music for the saxophone resulting in the birth of Saxtet Publications. In 2002 he founded the National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain. Nigel composed many pieces that have been performed in the UK and abroad by such notable saxophonists as Gerard McChrystal and John Harle. His works have been broadcast on both radio and television. Several of his compositions have been recorded on Saxtet's CD Safer Sax and are available in sheet music.

The music played in the workshop will include Nigel's own compositions and arrangements for saxophone choir from the Saxtet Publications catalogue and National Saxophone Choir repertoire. The focus will be on improving ensemble skills andpreparation for performance.

10.00am - 4.00pm
Short performance at 4pm to show the repertoire learnt during the day
