A self-guided walk from Chawton to Farringdon.

Jane Austen spent the last eight years of her life in Chawton from 1809 until 1817. This walk follows the valleys, thatched cottages and countryside which inspired Jane's works.

Starting in the village of Chawton and passing through Farringdon, the route is about 4.5 miles and will take approximately 3 hours.

There are plenty of places to visit on the way including Jane Austen's House Museum and Chawton House Library.

The walk starts from the centre of Chawton. Chawton is one mile southwest of Alton, signposted off the roundabout at the junction of the A31 Winchester Road with the A32 Fareham Road.
