A spacious and comfortable self-contained apartment for 1 or 2 people who like to be independent but appreciate having linen, towels and starter breakfast ingredients provided. It is also for those who do not want to be far from the centre of historic Winchester but at the same time wish to enjoy lovely country views and have easy access to the surrounding area. Stays may be booked by the week or for shorter stays giving visitors the greatest flexibility with their plans.
The Annexe at The Down House adjoins our home, a fine Edwardian house, on the Northern edge of Winchester. Access from the A34 and M3 is quick and easy. The railway station (1 hour from London Waterloo) and city centre are about 1½ miles away with a good bus service. The many facilities within walking distance include take-aways, a café, a restaurant, supermarkets, a petrol station / garage, a doctors’ surgery and a chemist.
The Annexe is entered through its own front door with ample parking just outside. Downstairs consists of a well equipped kitchen and a cosy sitting / dining room with Freeview TV and a DVD player. There is also a downstairs loo. We have a secure garage for cycles if required.
Upstairs, the bedroom has twin 3' x 6’ 6” beds that can be zipped and linked to make a large double bed. The room is very spacious and is comfortably provided with two winged armchairs, a writing table, a large chest of drawers and other furniture. With windows on opposite sides, the room is light and airy and has delightful views of the garden and the fields beyond.
The adjoining bathroom has a large bath and a large shower cubicle. There is a fitted hanging cupboard on the landing and a stair lift.
There is free WiFi broadband access.
Visitors may enjoy our 1½ acre garden in which there are benches, tables and chairs during the warmer months.
We welcome both tourists and those on business. Nearby organisations North of Winchester include Arqiva, Sparsholt College, the Army Technical Foundation College, and the Army Adjutant General’s Corps.
For those exploring the lovely Hampshire countryside, we are a good starting point for the Itchen and Test Valleys, both meccas for fly fishing and brimming with attractive villages, enticing pubs and plentiful byways for walking and cycling.
(Non-smokers only please and we regret we cannot accept pets.)
