As well as experiencing the full force of the River Itchen as it roars beneath Winchester City Mill, there’s lots taking place throughout the October half-term to keep the children (and adults) busy. All of our October half-term events are free after admission and ideal for the whole family. Any donations received throughout the week will go towards Winchester City Mill’s fundraising appeal.

Apple harvest weekend

Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 October, 11am - 4pm

Celebrate all that's great about British apples at Winchester City Mill this autumn. Meet the apple experts from Sparsholt College and learn all about regional varieties of apples. Bring your own apples along for identification.

Apple harvest baking demonstration

Saturday 21 October, 11am - 3pm

Join our volunteer bakers as they demonstrate how our freshly milled wholemeal flour can be combined with seasonal products, including locally-grown apples, to make delicious treats. You can taste the results too and take home recipe cards to have a go yourself.

Pumpkin family trail

Saturday 21 – Sunday 29 October, 10am - 4pm

Get in to the Hallowe'en spirit with our labyrinth of cobwebs and a brand new spooky family trail. Little explorers can keep an eye out for the pumpkins that have sprouted in and around the Mill whilst older children decode the mystery cryptogram. Complete the trail for the chance to win yummy prizes.

Hallowe’en pumpkin carving

Tuesday 24 & Thursday 26 October, 11am - 3pm

Kids - bring a pumpkin along to Winchester City Mill and we'll help you transform it for Hallowe'en. Our expert pumpkin carvers will show you how to create your very own grinning Jack-o’-lantern.

Hallowe’en storytelling

Friday 27 October

Storytelling sessions begin at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, 2pm, 3pm & 4pm

Hallowe’en baking demonstration

Sunday 29 October, 11am – 3pm

This special baking demonstration gives children (and adults) the chance to decorate their favourite biscuit or cupcake to take home. While you’re here, why not sample our Hallowe’en special recipe, Red Velvet cupcakes, and take away an exclusive recipe card?

Traditional milling demonstrations

Every Saturday & Sunday & Wednesday, 11am-4pm

See our team of volunteer millers in action as they harness the power of the River Itchen to turn waterwheels, gears and millstones to produce our stoneground wholemeal flour. Ask one of our volunteers about a basement tour and see firsthand why we need to raise money to make urgent repairs to the Mill’s structure.
